The Siegerland short distance classic which is well known even beyond the regional borders of North-Rhine Westphalia drew many athletes and spectators to Buschhütten. 800 athletes from 9 federal states, among them 170 women, participated in a total of 9 starting groups.
The public and relay races which started the event in the morning were open for everybody. Graebener® also participated with their own relay team consisting of Eva Kapp (0.5 km swimming), Simon Sareika (26 km cycling) and Stefan Warda (5.3 km running). The Graebener® team reached 11th place among the 38 relay teams.
In the afternoon, the athletes started the Buschhütten short distance race (1.0 km – 41.9 km – 9.5 km). Top of the starting list was Jan Frodeno – world record holder for the Ironman distance in 7:35:39 hours, winner of the Ironman Hawaii in 2015 and 2016, multiple German Champion, European Champion, World Champion as well as Olympic Champion of 2008. Other top athletes who participated were Jonas Hoffmann, Till Schramm, Andreas Niedrig, Fabian Günther, Bas Diederen, Johnny Zipf, Franz Löschke, Florian Angert and Andi Böcherer. The Women's League was represented by top athletes like Anna Lena Pohl, Lea Sophie Keim, Mareen Hufe or Laura Philipp, the fasted German triathlete over the Ironman distance. Jan Frodeno was the first to reach the finish line after 1:38:38 hours. With this win, he was able to add "King of Buschhütten" to his impressive list of titles. The EJOT team also had a successful day. The women of the NRW League reached 2nd place, the men reached 10th place and the seniors even made first place.
